AUS DAY 1788

January 27th, 2023 admin-sunsetcoast Features, Local, News, Post 0 comments

IN THE BEGINNING

Its hard to imagine the reality of the first fleet arrival which would have multiple stories from several angles that could be told of what it was like in the first week, month, year of 1788.

The individuals on the ships under command at sword or gun point, strict codes of conduct. Convicts who survived the journey, some only minor offenders, experiencing a reality which must have been skewed or screwed buy any stretch of what we would called normality. After 252 days on the high sea in ridiculous conditions for all not in command. Many of the convicts had already been locked up for years prior with this there last hope of survival. Fear ruled with all the boats on route to New Holland full of poor people soon to be slaves at the mercy of the military.

Australia was a land described as uninhabited wilderness with no recognition of native indigenous people living on the land. Occupants of the big island were self sufficient indigenous people living one of the most simplistic lifestyles in an ancient land oblivious to the fact that the new comers had motives of ownership, with weapons, guns, advance fighting methods, ships with inventions for exceeding anything the native people had at there use if needed. The British where starting a new colony for the Commonwealth as a civilized frontier for the King as Crown
land.

There is a massive amount of reference materials since the internet has allowed for the exposure of reports, journals, information that explains much of what a lot of ordinary people were unaware due to sources of information scarcity coupled with the British, American, European propaganda materials in full promotion. Tradition can be a badge or branding that is not questioned or evaluated for its authenticity due to its attractive, fascinating good story telling of fable like quality. Making everything seem so grand, inspiring, the best outcome for all. But in any change especially migration, there is displacement of the original or the old with introduction of the new. This usually means a sharing or fight for space. Challenges of ownership, disputes, aggression, forceful behavior, possible theft, violence, human tragedy.

This usually means a sharing or fight for space. Challenges of ownership, disputes, aggression, forceful behavior, possible theft, violence, human tragedy.

But through all the adversity, the centuries of past we are here today in a modern Australia working through the generational collateral damage on all fronts of indigenous land rights, sharing of the land, partnerships in opportunities, ongoing migration, evolving as the most multi cultural society in the world. From an estimated 500,000+ indigenous to 26 million today from all walks of life, countries, cultures, calling Australia home. With 16.000 people nationalized on Australia Day.
