SUNSET ODYSSEY
It has been a odyssey of places. people, parties, presentations, playing the game of business life with common threads that is the sunsets, coast, creative endeavour’s. A retrospective on the history of the Sunset Coast Life in with origins from the early ’90’s was a local reference to the WA coast because of the sunset over the sea.
Local Dean Mitchell was apart of the sunset coast movement in the 90’s after starting an independent promotional agency in 1991 branded Mitchell Marketing Management. During the 80’s having success working as manager of the Xpress Magazine from launching as an unknow rock rag to an award winning street press magazine becoming a house hold name of its time as an uncensored publication for 18’s – 35’s. X Generation revolution in WA across Australia was inline with a world wide phenomenon. After moving on @ XPress Magazine & Encore Productions carrying over with all the contacts made for several very busy years, Mitchell & Co became a proactive promotional company in WA’s leading venues, events for a decade.
SUNSET PROMOTION
The next phase of the Mitchell & Co projects for production was Sunset Coast Events & Promotions. A coat tailing association with all the entertainment + publishing activities along the coastal districts. Scarborough, Cottesloe, Fremantle, Sorrento, Mindarie. Several years of working in a network of local, national, international contacts booking events into venues, tours. Plus ongoing publishing with seasonal magazine directories for Wind Surfing WA, Kite surfing, Sail boarding, Surfing WA. Summer series of concerts, sponsored events for coastal shires. Involvement with Tourism WA for Events Corp the Sunset Coast was a concept in focus. On September 1996 the Sunset Coast Magazine was published in a bi monthly colour quarto A4 sized booklet. 8 seasonal issues over 2 years ’96-’98 years printed, distributed with each copy full of ‘Local Legends’ & the hottest spots with everything that is cool about the sunset coast. Simultaneously special events booked with Cottesloe, Scarborough, Rendezvous, Lookout, Sorrento Quay, Mindarie Quay, Fremantle, Rockingham, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Albany, Lancelin, Geraldton, Broome, Port Headland. Sunset Coast promotions went state-wide with a busy ’96-‘2000
BANDWAGON
With the digital world opening up for business Mitchell & Co created the BandWAgon [bandwagon.net.au] in ’99 born for more of the Sunset Coast but heavily into WA’s bands, talent, local legends, events, venues with everything that was happening for the ultimate guide along with special event features in WA. Used as a digital online directory, bookings service, Top 200 WA acts, mid week gig guide, venue menu, reviews, tours, Out Now, On parade, competitions, comedy, coastal hot spots, it was all happening online anytime. It was kind of a download or upload of all the local contacts live online to promote, book, present as a business but also as a fan. Reaching around 8,000 subscribers active from 1997 – 2007 was big fun !
SUNSET PARADISE
Founder of Sunset Coast Life – Dean a local born & bred who like many has had the pleasure to live in WA. A life of loving sunsets, beach, swimming, surfing, sports & lifestyle culture in the west. When possible on weekends heading to the beach early for a salty day or finishing with a sunset surf when possible to end the day. A mad sports fan, music tragic, loving live bands, clubs, every other day of the week socializing. . Getting out & about meeting new strangers is a way of life. After way too many Sunday Sessions + shit loads of sundowners around town it became obvious living in WA was like the island life. Planet Perth is really a paradise lifestyle with every day ending in an amazing sunset.:)
SUNSETS IN COMMON
Sunset Coast was always a common reference to WA beach life. So it was a natural to promotional angle to use Sunset Coast as a brand to campaign for an umbrella to all the activities planned. produced, presented. Creating a focus or framing one of WA’s natural assets the sunsets over the Indian Ocean with beach life with a climate that is so special. Anything & everything was showcased under the banner of Sunset Coast for Events, Magazine, promotions since 1996. Powered by Mitchell Marketing & Management in collaboration with many WA’s local legends.
SUNSET COASTING
1996 the timing was right for another idea for alternative WA brand. “The state of Excitement” 80’s + “Sandgroppers” was not really true or cool. Developing an agency with a collective of key people in Perth, multileveled promotions, publishing, productions, presentations which was tagged with the local Sunset Coast concept. From 1991 – 1999 before the turn of another century after nearly a decade of small, medium, large promotions in the coastal communities. Adding some cool coastal styling to WA successfully promoting the best of the west.
SUNSET COAST EVENTS
Sunset Coast Special Events presented monthly, quarterly, annual events continued for a decade 1996-2006. The Sunset Coast message became strong influencing Tourism WA who recommended to rename West Coast Highway to Sunset Coast Blvd establishing a Sunset Coast drive. From Cottesloe to Sorrento initially then expanded from Fremantle to Mullaloo. It’s a framing of the central coast but really the Indian Ocean meets the coastline state wide with a sunset over the sea every day as one of the natural attractions in Western Australia.
SELLING SUNSET COAST LIFE
The next chapter in this story was selling the lifestyle of Sunset Coast. From 2006 Mitchell & Co continued, evolving into a direction of more than just entertainment, attractions & events but actual living the life. A new decade of personal homely happenings with a growing family, property, renovations, building moving, parenting, community volunteering. Business change in lanes on the Mitchell freeway marketing & management into the world of new reality in realty.
M & Co has been continual in service to select few old clients along with another evolution into property from 2006. Over decades of selling intellectual property now selling the sunset coast in bricks, mortar, dirt for anyone wanting slice of paradise. A person to person with ones lifetime event & largest investment. Plus developments that are shaping our state especially from the city to along the sunset coastal areas. Another level of education, experiences, expertise, skills gained in property/real estate. This was a lifetime 30+ year business plan to be involved in the largest personal investment. It was a long term plan & journey like a marketing & management marathon. The ride continues for todays business cycle.
NEW LIFE
After a short hiatus several years focusing on the profession of property business publishing was on the back burner. 2015 the time again was right to continue to appreciate the greatest place on earth is Perth with a sunset coast life. The wheels again put in motion with a couple of events, then the development of web site + instagram, facebook, linked in, email database, entering the new updated 21st century digital world of property promotions. A few local crew jumped in providing help with imput, info, construction, connections, content, socials + many affiliations, collaborations with a collective of very talented WA people.

The Sunset Coast Directory Ezine was relaunched September 2017 for anyone anywhere interested to browse to ride again to surf the net for all there is to offer. The last decade in WA has been significant with changes to so many things to see, do, visit to experience the awesomeness of WA.
