Sunset Coast Life

Looking for a quick day trip?

Here’s everything to do in Lancelin
Just 90 minutes from the CBD, the rolling white dunes and crystal waters of Lancelin await.

It’s not quite as far as Jurien Bay, and can be an easy day or weekend trip if you’re looking for a quick getaway.

But what do you do once you’re in Lancelin? Well, luckily you can leave that to us with our top picks for the region.

Places to eat and drink
There are more places to eat here than you’d expect. Some coastal towns can only have a couple of options, but you’ve got a bit more choice in Lancelin.

Here are our top three crowd-pleasers:

LOBSTER TRAP CAFE
This is a favourite among locals and visitors alike- Lobbster Trap Café is complete with one of those beautiful outdoor areas that make you feel like you could definitely spend a few hours there.

Open from 8am to 3pm Friday to Monday, the café is a good place for breakfast or lunch.

While lobster is of course on the menu, so too are vegan options, so everyone is sure to find something they like.

Lancelin Jetty

THE DUNES RESTAURANT
Named after the rolling sand dunes that have made Lancelin famous, The Dunes Restaurant is located inside The Lancelin Beach Hotel.

A good place to go to celebrate the weekend, you can enjoy oysters and some sparkling wine to really get the good vibes going.

Or if you’re in for something simpler, you can always get a parmi and beer.

ENDEVOUR TAVERN
This country pub sits right on the beach, and definitely has the laid-back vibe to go with a trip away from Perth.

Endeavour serves lunch and dinner, with plenty of outdoor seating from which to enjoy the sea breeze

Like any good pub, they’ve got a different deal for each night, whether it’s burgers on Fridays, roast on Sundays or the chef’s choice on Saturday- you won’t be bored going to this venue a few days in a row.

SAND DUNES
Rather than the typical WA dunes that just separate the beach from the road, these dunes are more like an Arabian desert.

As such, there’s a whole lot to do on them.
Sandboarding
Not a surfer? Scared of getting dunked? No worries, you can try sandboarding instead.

This is only really possible on dunes as enormous as those in Lancelin.

There are many tours that drive you out to the best dunes and provide the sand boards, so all you have to do is hop on and slide down these sandy mountains.

FOUR WHEEL DRIVING
This is an activity you can do yourself, or again book a tour to experience.

The four-wheel drives offered in Lancelin look more like school buses than cars – which only makes this more fun.

There are also buggies and quad bikes available for hire that mean you and the whole crew can go head to head on the dunes.

A WALK
You don’t need to go all out to enjoy these dunes… you can always walk along them. Just make sure you have kept track of where you’ve entered this sprawling desert and have plenty of water.

There are few places as weird or wonderful as these dunes, so take the opportunity to snap some pictures, and maybe stage an Empire of the Sun photoshoot.

Lancelin Pinnacles desert

THE PINNACLES
desert is a weirder and wonderful landscape, filled with thousands of incredibly shaped limestone rock structures – each different from the last.

FISHING
The best fishing spot without taking a boat out to sea is the Lancelin Jetty.

From here you can catch Yellowtail Kingfish, Flathead, Whiting, Herring and more.

If you do want to go out to sea and don’t have a boat, there are plenty of tours you can book through companies like Reel Force charters.

SURFING
Newfound beaches mean newfound waves.

So grab your board and check out the local surf spots, including Eddie Island or the Back Beach.

Lancelin Windsurfing Festival

WINDSURFING
One of the best spots to do a windsurfing weekend. Plus annually a huge windsurfing festival has the town come alive with hundreds of participants, thousands of visitors.

If you’re not a surfer but have always wanted to be, you can learn from one of the many surf teachers residing in the town.

KAYAKING AND STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING
If you’re less inclined to cut through the waves with a surfboard and want to chill above the swell, there’s plenty of great kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding spots.

EDDIE ISLAND
Just hug the coast and look out for dolphins and seals.

Lancelin Bay with island life

A day trio Weekend or a full holiday stay we can recommend the Lano Life
An hours drive out of the metro area its a North West coastal spot that will not disappoint. Just the simple things in life staying sea side on the dunes of the Indian Ocean.
